What is the Opportunity?
We are looking for Derivatives Marketing analyst to work on a team of derivatives marketers covering US Corporate clients. The candidate will support senior and entry-level marketers. Efforts will include managing all phases of the counterparty and trade life-cycle from company research, counterparty onboarding, preparation and delivery of marketing materials, pre-trade modeling -- to live trade execution and post-trade support.
Role Objectives: Delivery
Act as the support on live trade executions while assisting to manage client and trader communications in addition to models and systems
Oversee new and on-going counterparty onboarding requirements across credit, legal, AML/KYC, and compliance/regulatory groups
Prepare pitchbooks and other marketing materials with a focus on determining meeting content, creating new materials, conducting analysis and writing text to support charts and tables
Engage with clients through phone calls, video conferences and SMBC hosted events along with occasional client travel
Assist in the development and delivery of derivative risk management solutions based on a thorough understanding of our clients’ business needs as well as gathering and analyzing data in relevant industries for new opportunities and solutions
Interact with relationship bankers on client calling and credit management along with partners in debt capital markets and other product groups on specific client pitches and deal teams

The five weeks of training includes:
Latest industry practices and thought leadership – We invite distinguished internal and external experts to conduct training sessions on critical topics
Credit and Financial Modelling, Financial Markets eLearning, Capital Markets, Accounting, Business Overviews (presented by panels of experts from our businesses) and Case Studies
Business Writing, Presentation Skills, Managing Your Career, Personal and SMBC Branding, Japanese Cultural Training, and various networking events
Buddy assignments to support fluid integration into the Analyst Program

The successful candidate will possess or demonstrate the following personal and professional attributes:
Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a graduation date of December 2025 to May 2026; excellent academic record
Preferably one year of interest rate derivatives sales experience marketing to US corporate clients
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Finance, Business, Math, Science, Engineering
Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel
Ideally, proficiency in Bloomberg including trade modeling, downloading data into Excel using formulas and Excel pricing functions
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity
Ability to comfortably interact with clients in a professional and mature manner
Outstanding ethics, integrity, and judgment
Intellectual curiosity
SMBC’s employees participate in a hybrid workforce model that provides employees with an opportunity to work from home, as well as, from an SMBC office. SMBC requires that employees live within a reasonable commuting distance of their office location. Prospective candidates will learn more about their specific hybrid work schedule during their interview process.
