Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI), located in Oshkosh WI, is filling two (2) Social Worker positions. Work hours will be from 8:00am – 6:30pm, Wednesday through Saturday or Sunday through Wednesday. These positions may be filled at multiple levels which include Senior, Advanced, or Clinical based on the credentials of the selected candidate as well as facility needs. 

WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary

 

As a Social Worker at WMHI, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assessing patient needs and making recommendations for treatment.
  • Monitoring and coordinating patient legal status.
  • Participating in the development and provision of both individual and group treatment programming.
  • Developing and coordinating discharge planning for patients.
  • Functioning as the liaison with the patient, the patient’s family, community agencies, and the treatment team.
  • Participating in assessing and improving clinical practice and other quality initiatives.
  • Training social work students and assisting in orienting and training new social work staff.

The Social Worker Advanced and Clinical levels include the following duties, in addition to the duties listed above:

  • The Advanced Practice Social Worker may engage in psychotherapeutic activities and provide services with the direct clinical supervision for the diagnoses, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders in individuals, families, and groups to restore, maintain, and enhance social functioning. 
  • The Clinical Social Worker may engage in psychotherapeutic activities and provide services without direct clinical supervision for the diagnoses, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders in individuals, families, and groups to restore, maintain, and enhance social functioning.

Salary Information

 

The starting pay for these positions depends on original social worker licensure date, level of position, and includes excellent benefits. The starting pay for each level is as follows:

Senior - between $34.67 and $37.62 per hour (approximately between $72,100 and $78,200 per year).

Advanced - between $38.96 and $40.96 per hour (approximately between $81,000 and $85,100 per year). 

Clinical - between $38.96 and $43.66 per hour (approximately between $81,000 and $90,800 per year).

A 12-month probationary period is required for these positions. Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. These positions are in pay schedule and range 12/63.

Job Details

 

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications

 

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Certification or eligible for certification as a Social Worker, Advanced Practice Social worker, or a Clinical Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin. 
    • Eligible is defined as: you currently hold certification in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in Wisconsin. Must obtain licensure within 6 months of the start date.
  • Experience working with patients with mental illness, developmental or intellectual disabilities, substance use disorders or a related population.
  • Experience providing case management services such as biopsychosocial assessments, treatment planning, discharge planning, post discharge follow up, etc.
  • Experience or training with Wisconsin State Statute Chapter 51 and the process involved in civil commitments.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience working in an inpatient, outpatient, or residential mental health setting.
  • Experience working with patients in behavioral health crisis.
  • Experience providing individual or group treatment interventions.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
