Director of Operations
About Lynton
Lynton is a technology and professional services firm that spent 16 years as a HubSpot partner before leaving to build AI-native websites and open-source infrastructure for mid-market B2B companies. We're a small team (under 10) growing deliberately, with the conviction that companies deserve to own their technology — not rent it from SaaS vendors who raise prices every year.
We're bootstrapped, profitable, and scaling. Our clients are $50M–$500M revenue companies across multiple industries. We operate our own infrastructure, manage our own security, and take compliance seriously. You will often be the first line of defense against a breach.
We're an AI-native company. Our operations run on the same principles we sell: automate what can be automated, put a human at the quality gate, and never let a process depend on someone remembering to do it manually. You will be proof of what it looks like to run AI-native operations for a company.
The role
You'll be the operational backbone of a growing company. Think of this as a COO-in-training — you'll own the internal functions that let a services firm run cleanly while the founder and delivery team focus on clients and product.
You'll be hands-on across finance, HR, IT administration, contracts, compliance, and AI-enabled process automation. You will be expected to take full ownership of these departments.
This role is different from traditional ops. You'll work alongside AI agents that automate key business processes. Your job is to orchestrate those agents, set quality thresholds, and serve as the human approval gate. The workflows you build will directly inform the operational methodology we sell to clients.
What you'll doFinance
- Accounts payable/receivable, invoicing, expense management
- Monthly financial close and reporting (working with our external accountant)
- Cash flow forecasting, budget tracking, and financial modeling
- Vendor payment management and contract terms
Human Resources
- Onboarding and offboarding employees and contractors
- Maintaining employee records, policies, and handbooks
- Benefits administration and compliance with employment law
- Coordinating with employment counsel on contracts and agreements
IT Administration
- Managing employee access across software systems (SSO, identity management, access provisioning and deprovisioning)
- Clean user lifecycle management — right access on day one, full revocation on departure
- IT procurement (hardware, licenses) and system/subscription inventory
General Business Operations
- Contract management — NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, vendor agreements
- Vendor evaluation, negotiation, and relationship management
- Insurance, corporate filings, and regulatory compliance
- Developing and maintaining internal policies (information security, data handling, incident response)
Compliance & Security Posture
- Maintaining security policies and ensuring they're followed — not just documented
- Access reviews, security awareness, and incident response coordination
- Building a compliance program appropriate for a company that handles client infrastructure and data
AI-Enabled Operations
- Orchestrate AI agents that automate business processes — invoicing, access provisioning, compliance checks, contract review
- Define workflows, set quality thresholds, review outputs at approval gates, escalate when judgment is needed
- Continuously improve the processes AI agents automate — the workflows you build inform the methodology we sell to clients
Who you are
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems, Operations Management, or a related field
- 2–4 years of professional experience in operations, finance, or a generalist business role. We need someone who's been accountable for real outcomes with a track record of success.
- Hands-on experience with at least three of the six areas above (Finance, HR, IT Admin, Business Ops, Compliance, AI-Enabled Operations)
- Prior experience in a technology company or professional services firm (agency, consultancy, or similar)
- Comfort using AI tools in professional work — not as a curiosity, but as a daily operating method. You don't need to build models; you need to know when AI output is good enough to act on and when it needs human review
- Strong written communication — you'll draft policies, contracts, and internal documentation
- Comfort with ambiguity — you'll build processes from scratch, not inherit a playbook
Preferred
- Experience at a company under 50 employees where you wore multiple hats
- Familiarity with identity and access management concepts (SSO, RBAC, least-privilege)
- Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar)
- Experience with contract management or working alongside legal counsel
- Familiarity with modern business tools (accounting software, HRIS platforms, project management)
