Intern Copy Editing

JOB DESCRIPTION *

As news breaks faster, it's important to get it right, and copy editors are crucial to that process online and in print. Copy editing interns edit stories on deadline for accuracy, clarity, style, spelling and grammar for the print and digital publications, as well as write headlines appropriate for each platform.

There are also opportunities to learn layout design on the news desk and how to manage the dallasnews.com home page and @dallasnews Twitter account on the web shift.

Copy editing applicants should send seven to 8 headlines and editing samples. Clips should include notes explaining the applicant’s role in shaping the story for publication.

A cover letter and résumé with references are required with all applications. Application materials will not be returned, and applicants should not expect an explanation of why their application was accepted or rejected.

The application deadline is November 1 and we will make every attempt to inform applicants of their hiring status no later than Jan. 1.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree (associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) or they may have graduated within six months prior to the internship start date.

Previous daily newspaper experience is requested.
