Under general direction, serves as a clinical psychologist for the Metro Forensic Area; conducts inpatient evaluations in Cook county and collar counties comprising the Metro area; makes clinical diagnosis; signs certificates of admission for mentally ill or court ordered admissions/transfers to a forensic unit. Testifies in court as an expert witness as defined by the Mental Health Code and Forensic Statutes. Travels in performance of job duties.
 
 
Job Responsibilities
 
  • Serves as a clinical psychologist for the Metro Forensic Area. Pursuant to court orders remanding a person as Unfit to Stand Trial (UST) or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI), travels to conduct inpatient evaluations of mentally ill people housed in jails across the northern part of the state.
 
  • For inpatient evaluation, designs a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation packet for each forensic patient detailed in jail.
 
  • Conducts outpatient forensic evaluations with both patients and families, interviews patient and family members.
 
  • Creates a computer database to gather and track statistical data on population served. Conducts on-going research into new treatment and changes in legislation.
 
  • Within 48 hours of referral, conducts Behavior Risk Management evaluations as requested by a local community hospital or community provider.
 
  • Provides forensic outpatient fitness restorations services including fitness education and preparation of fitness evaluations and progress report for the referring courts. Testifies in court as an expert witness as defined by the Mental Health Code and Forensic Statutes. Signs certificates of admission for mentally ill or court ordered admissions/transfers to a forensic unit.
 
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required that are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
 
 
Minimum Qualifications
 
  • Requires (a) a doctoral degree in psychology from a recognized college or university supplemented by two years of supervised experience in health services of which at least one year is post-doctoral and one year is in an organized health service program
 
OR
  • (b) a master's degree in psychology from a recognized college or university supplemented by at least six years of experience as a psychologist with at least two years of supervised experience in health services.
 
  • Requires licensure as a Clinical Psychologist by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
