Access to Justice Summer Intern

Departmental Mission:
 
The Executive Office of the Trial Court is led by the Chief Justice of the Trial Court and the Court Administrator and oversees judicial and court operations, including the Office of Court Management. The Executive Office works collaboratively with the Trial Court’s seven Departments and Commissioners of Probation and Jury to develop and implement policies and initiatives that promote an environment of continuous improvement and ensure the most effective use of resources to support and enhance the delivery of justice in the Trial Court. The Executive Office also oversees the development and implementation of strategic planning for the Trial Court.
 
The Massachusetts Office of Access to Justice (A2J) within the Executive Office of the Trial Court works to provide equal access to the court system for the public, including self-represented litigants, those with limited or no English proficiency, and individuals with mental or physical disabilities.
 
Position Summary:
 
The intern, under the supervision and guidance of the Access to Justice Administrator, Forms and Technology Administrator, and/or designee, will work on a variety of assignments that will involve the administration and development of A2J business and operations. The intern should be able to provide a broad range of skilled and confidential administrative support. In addition, the Forms and Technology Administrator may assign the intern responsibility for longer-term projects, including the analysis, editing, and database management of forms. The Access to Justice Coordinator may assign the intern responsibility for longer-term projects as well, including the establishment of a Court Navigator program, A2J Liaisons, as well as research and planning for Lawyer for the Day programs. Because A2J has statewide jurisdiction, the intern may be called upon to accompany the A2J staff and travel across the Commonwealth if/when the need arises. The intern’s daily duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the A2J Library Initiative / outreach events, conferences, etc.
  • Assist with the creation of a Courtwide Navigator Program
  • Assist with the creation of A2J Liaison program
  • Assist with the review of mass.gov forms for compliance with the Forms Design Guidelines
  • Assist in editing forms to comply with the Forms Design Guidelines
  • Assist in a minimal viable product of a Forms Database
  • Assist with the management of forms projects and corresponding schedules and deliverables
  • Assist with the office’s daily administrative tasks
 
Position Requirements:
  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of university
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe and other computer software
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written forms
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
