General description
Performs moderately complex (journey-level) accounts examination work. Conducts research and analysis of complex taxpayer accounts, prepares documentation to justify actions, and monitors accounts for completion or subsequent actions. Uses all applicable computer systems or a personal computer to code or run programs to maintain or update files or produce reports. Assists taxpayers, other agencies, and agency personnel with taxability questions. May train others. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

In this role you will:
  • Performs research on taxpayer accounts, analyzing for proper disposition and completing processing requirements accurately and efficiently within established turnaround times or deadlines. Examines, edits and updates taxpayer accounts. Adjusts and follows up to ensure the taxpayer’s account reflects accurate information.
  • Responds professionally to questions from taxpayers, tax practitioners, agency personnel, consultants, local jurisdictions, local and county officials.
  • Review’s assignments and prioritizes workload in accordance with section policies and procedures. Uses a mainframe or personal computer to maintain and update files or produce reports. Reviews tax reports and payments to determine accuracy of computations, proper tax rates, and updates accounts with any necessary changes.
  • Examines taxpayer accounts to determine appropriate and complete action ensuring proper transactions are entered to the tax processing systems. Prepares documentation to justify actions and monitors accounts for completion and subsequent action.
  • Review’s assignment leads and performs research to determine best assignments to work.
  • Prioritizes, plans, and organizes assigned inventory in a manner that will optimize efficiency on moderately complex accounts examination work.
  • Provides information verbally and in writing when communicating with co-workers, all levels of management, other agency personnel, taxpayers, and their representatives. Informs supervisor of status and progress of activities and workload inventories. Participates in special projects/assignments as assigned.
  • Determines resources needed to perform analysis. Analyzes information and determines action to be taken on assignments. Identifies, determines, and documents problems in system design, forms, workflow, policies, and procedures and proposes action for improvement. Monitors account actions for completion or subsequent action. Learns and applies knowledge to progressively work more critical and complex accounts.
  • Travels occasionally to participate in special projects and attend mandatory training located in local and out of town locations that may require overnight stays. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) years of experience analyzing and researching accounts. 

Preferred Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a finance, accounting, or other business-related degree.
  • Analyzing and researching taxpayer accounts
  • Tax processing systems including AWM and CICS
  • Sales tax processing
  • Franchise Tax
 
Substitutions
One additional year of experience in analyzing and researching accounts may substitute for 30 semester hours of the required education, with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).

Salary is contingent upon qualifications. CPA employees in the same job classification, if selected, will be laterally transferred with no increase in salary. (An example might be an Accounts Examiner III in Revenue Administration who moves to an Accounts Examiner III in the Enforcement division).
