Life Scientist/Environmental Engineer/Physical Scientist - R5

This position is in Region 5, Water division. About Region 5: https://www.epa.gov/aboutepa/epa-region-5.

This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis. Partial work-from-home flexibilities may be authorized.

Duties


At the entry level of this position, you will:

-Provide professional engineering/scientific technical, regulatory, and programmatic advice, oversight and assistance to state/local/tribal governments and others on matters relating to the development, execution, and monitoring of environmental protection policies, plans, and programs.

-Provide technical and programmatic leadership for one or more specialized areas of civil, environmental, mechanical and/or chemical engineering/science including wastewater, drinking water, storm water, and other related water and water infrastructure programs.

-Provide professional engineering/scientific technical oversight to state, local, and tribal governments and other entities funded through Federal grants.

-Assist in investigations and/or studies of environmental conditions in support of such activities as water infrastructure.

-Apply professional scientific/engineering knowledge and skill along with principles and methods of engineering/scientific analysis and design to provide technical engineering/science for planning and review of decisions regarding complex water infrastructure programs and projects including restoration.

When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.

You will spend less than 50% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
