School Environmental Health, Safety, and Indoor Air Quality Supervisor (EP5) DOH8195

The Department of Health (DOH) in Washington State focuses on protecting and improving health through equity, innovation, and engagement. The Division of Environmental Public Health (EPH) supports this by preventing environmental health hazards and promoting healthy environments.

The Office of Environmental Health & Safety (OEHS) works to reduce and prevent exposure to environmental hazards and disease pathogens in wastewater, food, schools, and recreational areas. This position reports to the OEHS Section Manager.

The School Environmental Health, Safety, and Indoor Air Quality Supervisor serves as a consultant to the Program Technical Lead and Section Manager by:

  • Statewide School Environmental Health and Safety Program: Supervising staff, ensuring deliverables are accurate, assisting local health jurisdictions and state agencies in improving their programs, and representing the agency in state government.
  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Program: Supervising the IAQ Specialist, supporting program staff, aiding in program development and improvement, and coordinating with partners such as local health jurisdictions, IAQ experts, other state agencies, university researchers, healthcare professionals, and community members.

 

Telework (mobile work) is currently expected for this home-based, full-time permanent Environmental Planner 5 (EP5). Required in-office work is rare and would be scheduled in advance.

Required Qualifications 

Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile. Experience may be gained concurrently.

 

Option 1:  Eight (8) or more years of experience in regulatory environmental health and safety guidelines in a local, state and/or federal regulatory or health services program. 

 

Option 2: A bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental health field, and six (6) years of experience in regulatory guidelines in a local, state and/or federal regulatory or health services program.

 

Option 3: A master’s degree in public health, environmental health field, and four (4) years of experience in regulatory guidelines in a local, state and/or federal retail regulatory or health services program.

 

AND for all options

 

Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience to include all aspects of workforce and performance development and direct supervision in a local, state, and/or federal regulatory or health services program. 

  

Desired Qualifications 

 

  • Registered as a Sanitarian in either Washington State or by the National Environmental Health Association.
  • Experience leading teams, projects, workgroups that includes strategic, complex planning and resolving policy issues, in a local, state, and/or federal regulatory or health services program.

Conditions of Employment/Working Conditions
