Associate Scientist - Poultry

Position Description:

Under the direction of supervisor, conducts laboratory studies directed at the development of new or improved veterinary vaccines or other biological products. Performs routine laboratory work with minimal supervision. Performs complex laboratory work under moderate to close supervision. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Responsible for recording data, performing routine calculations, and providing tabulated summaries and preliminary conclusion to supervisor.

Writing routine laboratory procedure protocols with minimal supervision. Coordinates work schedule with other groups. Preparation of standard operating procedures and R&D procedures under minimal supervision. Responsible for recording and auditing data, performing routine calculations, and providing tabulated summaries with minimal supervision. Performs complex analyses and draws conclusions from experiments with close supervision. Write study protocols and study reports with minimal supervision. Serves as Study Investigator and/or Study Director for laboratory procedures and studies. Maintains laboratory notebooks and other records with clarity and completeness. Reads scientific literature as assigned by supervisor.

 

Education Minimum Requirement:

Bachelors degree in biochemistry, biology, microbiology, virology, immunology, or related field.

 

Required Experience and Skills: (Minimum requirements)

A working knowledge of basic laboratory techniques in life science

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to work effectively with peers in R&D and other departments.

Must have good computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.

 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

At least 1 year of working experience in laboratory research setting.

Demonstrated hands-on experience in nucleic acid purification methodologies including plasmid purification and manipulation (cloning).

Experience in DNA and protein characterization methods such as PCR, SDS-PAGE, Western Blots and IFA

Experience in avian or mammalian cell culture is desirable.

Experience in preparing laboratory study protocols and reports.

Experience with animal disease models
