The College of Pharmacy invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, fixed-term, Assistant Professor (Senior Research) position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the (insert Dean.
Sahay Lab at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU ) is developing non-viral vectors for gene therapy. The Assistant Professor (Senior Research) will lead research activities in a multidisciplinary project connecting several groups within OSU . The project aims to develop targeted nanotherapeutics for broad-action protection against ionizing radiation. This position will utilize expertise in nanomedicine to coordinate and perform studies that will enable the continuous progress within the scope of this project. Expertise in lipid nanoparticle-based mRNA delivery and long-term stability studies is preferable. Frequent reporting and communication with the funding agency as well as the research team, including formulation scientists, biologists, engineers, translational scientists, immunologists, and industry and clinical collaborators, will be required. Additional responsibilities include service and student mentorship. The work site is located at the SW Waterfront of the Robertson Life Sciences Building in Portland, OR that houses researchers and clinicians from OSU , OHSU and PSU .

Key Responsibilities
90% Research and Scholarship
• Execute on projects related to extrahepatic delivery
• Perform duties of principal investigator (PI) or co-principal investigator (co-PI)
• Perform independent research in the area of nanomedicine structure, design and stability studies
• Write grants with Dr. Sahay
• Write grants independently to establish their own lab
• Advise graduate students and postdocs in the field of nanomedicine and drug delivery
• Conduct independent research and collaborative activities
• Write collaborative grants with and pursue independent young investigator grants
• Present research at conferences and scientific meetings
5% Teaching and Advising
• Teach PhD students in graduate level courses and mentoring postdocs/grad students/undergrads
5% Service
• Review of grants/papers and service to the college.
• Facilitate an inclusive and supportive work/research environment for all students, staff, researchers, community members and external stakeholders.
What You Will Need
• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences or closely related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry) or equivalent terminal degree
• Proficient in oral and written English
• Evidence of scholarly research accomplishments including publication record in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, etc.
• 2+ year of postdoctoral training
• 2 years of industry experience
• Strong potential to establish an independent extramurally funded research program.
• Commitment to advancing diversity and to contributing to an inclusive, and equitable community.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Working Conditions / Work Schedule
