EXTENSION PROGRAM ASST- HORTICULTURE

Program Delivery
Conduct a variety of educational activities and projects related to increasing client horticultural knowledge and the adoption of research-based gardening practices. Teach groups of youth and adults utilizing prepared curricula and engage with the agent and volunteers in developing new programs and activities. Provide one-on-one horticultural consultations to clients through the office and off-site plant clinics.

Master Gardener Volunteer Development and Support
Assist the agent with supporting Master Gardener Volunteer programs. This includes recruiting, supporting, and retaining new Master Gardener Volunteers. Will be required to assist the agent and volunteers with the maintenance and management of the county demonstration gardens as well as volunteer meetings and educational events.

Training & Travel
Develops and improves knowledge of horticulture, gardening, education, and volunteer management subject matter, becomes proficient in determining clientele needs, understands various methods of reaching and teaching clientele, and develops proficiency in using curricula and other educational materials via participation in orientation training, continuous on-the-job training and self-study. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position. For purposes to travel to county, district and state events.

Reporting
Collect data of program participation and outcomes through provided evaluation tools. Assist volunteers and clients with enrollment in courses through volunteer and event management software. Maintain records of programs and participants and provide report to County Extension Agent regularly as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

Verbal and written instructions for training purposes, program delivery, and procedural forms. Additional instructions on an as-needed basis. Must be able to work independently and in a team. This position reports to the County Extension Director with daily activities assigned by the horticulture agent.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE

This employee will work flexible hours depending on upcoming events. Office hours are 8:00 to 4:30 with an hour lunch, M-F. Some evenings and weekends are required.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW

Valid Driver's License
Active or the Ability to Receive Relevant Florida Pesticide Applicator Licenses

OTHER CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION

Background check and fingerprinting required. Must possess or be willing to acquire a relevant Florida Pesticide Applicator License.
