Environmental Health Supervisor

Seeking a full-time organized, detailed oriented, pragmatic, and collaborative environmental health supervisor to join the environmental health team based in our Wexford County Office.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Oversees activities and operations of assigned programs to ensure provision of effective, efficient and safe services in accordance with Public Health Code, program requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Supervises assigned employees and monitors work to ensure standards for accuracy, timeliness, productivity, and compliance are accomplished. Initiates corrective actions as necessary to ensure team and individual results and performance meet expectations.
  • Supervises assigned staff and assists in applying effective techniques and processes in conducting inspections, determining compliance, and issuing licenses and permits. Utilizes advanced knowledge and skills in resolving complex client issues or service delivery problems.
  • Interprets and enforces agency and division policies, procedures and objectives for staff, contractors, food service establishments, clients and visitors. Informs director of unusually complex or sensitive enforcement situations.
  • Completes more complex reviews and analyses within area of expertise which could include foodservice plan reviews, or evaluations for large site developments.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree required; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in public health or related field required; five (5) years’ preferred.

• Additional variances may be granted by the Health Officer.

  • Advanced knowledge and ability to oversee, organize, plan and evaluate assigned programs through progressively more responsible, related experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current REHS or Michigan RS certification preferred; or must acquire within one year after hire.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to evaluate and monitor division results and program compliance and devise appropriate plans and strategies to achieve desired outcomes for individual, population and community health.
  • Ability to plan and organize own work, oversee and direct the work of others, and identify and resolve complex operational, personnel, or service delivery problems.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse communities and families.
  • Communication and writing skills necessary to provide guidance and instruction to staff and collaborate with internal and external contacts in developing and implementing program plans, policies and procedures.
  • Supports other programs and office functions as necessary to ensure effective customer and community service.
  • Reliable transportation with valid Michigan driver’s license and certificate of insurance to travel as needed to other locations for work, training, or meetings.
